What is a SAL?SAL is short for Stitch-A-Long. This is a phrase widely used to indcate that a certain pattern will be worked on by all members of a group with the intention of finishing at the same time. My patterns are mystery SALs, so you have the added fun of not knowing exactly what you're stitching until the entire thing is complete.
-
Are your SALs beginner friendly? While I pride myself on making patterns that stitchers of all skill levels can enjoy, there are certain patterns that are more difficult than others. By visiting the "SAL Catalog" on the Events page, you can find a full list of past SALs with listed difficulty levels.
-
Do I have to read the novel to participate? No. I do not require you to read the novel in order to be a part of the SAL. Stitching Book Club is all about what makes you happy, so if you want to stitch but do not want to do the reading, that's totally fine. It is also not required to listen to the audiobook while stitching. This is simply something that many of my stitchers have found enjoyable but it is certainly not a requirement. I actually prefer to read a hard copy rather than listen to classic literature.
-
Is there a certain edition of the book I have to use?No. I do not assign any specific editions of any of the novels because we have stitchers from all around the world who may not have access to specific editions. You may choose any edition and format so long as it is the original text of the book assigned.
-
What if I can't keep up with the schedule?Stitching Book Club is all about fun. So I never want you to feel pressure to keep up with the group on either the reading or the stitching. If you fall behind, that's perfectly okay! Work at whatever pace works best for you.
-
Do I have to purchase one of your kits to participate? While it is required that you purchase the pattern in order to participate, it is not required that you purchase one of my kits. You are more than welcome to gather your own materials. Please keep in mind that for any of the SALs that call for a very unique color of fabric, the pattern was designed and floss colors were choosen specifically for that fabric color, so other fabric choices may cause the pattern to look different and floss colors may not appear as well.
-
What if I missed one of the SALs that I want to do?All of my patterns remain available after their active SAL period so you can stitch them at any time. The one exception to this will be The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, due to a production limitation that the C.S. Lewis has placed on the pattern in return for their copyright permission.
-
Is is okay if I change parts of the pattern?Yes. One of my favorite things about Stitching Book Club is seeing all of your individual creativity. I love seeing my designs in different color schemes and with added bits that are personalized to you. So please feel free to make changes to the pattern if it pleases you. Keep in mind that changing the pattern does not give you permission to distribute it in any way. The original pattern and any altered version remains under the copyright of Sapphire Mountain Handcrafts.
-
Why are some SALs limited edition?Limited edition SALs occur when the selected piece of literature is not yet in public domain and the copyright holder has given limitations to the number of patterns that can be produced. In order to abide by my copyright agreement, I cannot produce any more patterns once the limit has been reached. Unfortunately, this means that once a limited edition SAL is sold out, you will not be able to obtain a new copy of it.
-
Why can I not find the Narnia SAL?I was granted permission by the C.S. Lewis Foundation to create a pattern for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Part of the agreement was that I could have a one time distrubution of 1500 patterns. The pattern sold out during the SAL, so unfortunately per my agreement, I am not able to produce any more patterns. If you know someone with the pattern, I am happy to let you share, but the pattern can not be sold.

Why is your fabric sized the way it is?The majority of my hand-dyed fabric comes in the size of 13 X 16 inches. This is due to how the dyeing process affects the fabric. All fabric bases are cut to the standard size of 15 X 18 inches. Once dyed, however, the fabric shrinks significantly. It is also necessary to trim the edges because of the amount of fraying that occurs. Due to this, the standard size of my fabric is 13 X 16 inches. Keep in mind that because the fabric shrinks, the count also changes from 14 count to approximately 16 count, so there is more stitching space available than may appear. If you would like a specific sized piece of fabric for a project, please do not hesitate to reach out and I will do my best to accommodate you.
